LAWS 781 - Gender-Based Violence SeminarCredits: 2 This course will explore U.S. and international legal responses to gender-based violence. Through classroom discussion, assigned readings and multi-media materials, and in-depth exploration of student-selected paper topics, the course will examine social constructions of gender and their relationship to violence, as well as the historical and contemporary treatment of multiple forms of gender-based violence under the law, such as trafficking, forced marriage, intimate partner violence, rape, sexual harassment, sexual violence within armed conflict, and ritualized practices. Basis of Grade: Students will write one 15-20-page paper. Students will submit one substantial draft and give a brief presentation of the paper during in-class workshops. Students will be graded on their first drafts, workshop preparation and performance, and final papers, as well as on their participation in class discussions and workshops. Form of Grade: Letter |
