LAWS 564 - Free Speech and DemocracyCredits: 3 This course will study the constitutional rights of freedom of expression guaranteed by the First Amendment. The course will consider constitutional questions related to regulation of offensive speech, defamation, pornography, symbolic speech, commercial speech, Internet and broadcast regulation, regulation of the public forum, and freedom of association. The course will emphasize the relations between free speech and democratic processes through consideration of campaign finance and election regulations. Prerequisites: Constitutional Law Note: The optional paper DOES NOT satisfy the graduation writing requirement. Basis of Grade: Final examination or optional research paper with permission of the instructor Form of Grade: Letter |
