LAWS 676 - Health Law and PolicyCredits: 3 This introductory health law and policy course surveys current regulatory schemes governing the provision of healthcare. The class focuses on major themes such as quality of care, access to care, cost containment and the role of the public health. The goal of this course is to familiarize students with the laws and recurrent policy concerns that arise in health law by analyzing a broad spectrum of health law areas. Areas studied include malpractice, the provider-patient relationship, informed consent, the regulation of healthcare facilities, the regulation of health insurers and managed care providers, Medicare/Medicaid, and the power of the state during a health emergency.
